چکیده

The presence of phenylethylamine (PEA) in human urine was demonstrated by several investigators (Jepson et al., 1960; Perry, 1962; Oates et al., 1963; Fischer et al., 1968; Boulton and Mil-ward, 1971; Fischer et al., 1972; Mosnaim and Inwang, 1973; Schweitzer et al., 1975). Further, a decrease of PEA was reported in the urine of depressed patients (Fischer et al., 1972; Rodriguez Casanova and Fernandez Labriola, 1972; Boulton and Milward, 1971; Mosnaim et al., 1973), and an increase in schizophrenic patients (Fischer et al., 1972) and in a subgroup of migrainous patients (Sandler, 1972). It has been claimed that the administration of D or DL-phenyla-lanine for true depression has resulted in an improvement of their symptomatology (Yaryura-Tobias et al., 1974; Fischer et al., 1975; Nachon and Di Santo, 1974; Ipar et al., 1974; Spatz et

Phenylethylamine, a possible link to the antidepressant effects of exercise?

OBJECTIVES To determine in this pilot study whether aerobic exercise affects phenylacetic acid concentration in the urine. METHODS Twenty healthy men provided 24 hour urine samples on two consecutive days for the determination of phenylacetic acid levels. Before and during day 1, subjects refrained from physical activity; on day 2 subjects ran on a treadmill at 70% of their maximal heart rate...

How Escherichia coli tolerates profuse hydrogen peroxide formation by a catabolic pathway.

When Escherichia coli grows on conventional substrates, it continuously generates 10 to 15 μM/s intracellular H2O2 through the accidental autoxidation of redox enzymes. Dosimetric analyses indicate that scavenging enzymes barely keep this H2O2 below toxic levels. Therefore, it seemed potentially problematic that E. coli can synthesize a catabolic phenylethylamine oxidase that stoichiometrically...

Improvement of whole-cell transamination with Saccharomyces cerevisiae using metabolic engineering and cell pre-adaptation

BACKGROUND Whole-cell biocatalysis based on metabolically active baker's yeast with engineered transamination activity can be used to generate molecules carrying a chiral amine moiety. A prerequisite is though to express efficient ω-transaminases and to reach sufficient intracellular precursor levels. RESULTS Herein, the efficiency of three different ω-transaminases originating from Capsicum ...

The obtain optimum production conditions for Glucose Oxidase biosensor using software Qualtek-4

The Glucose Oxidase (Gox) electrochemical sensors were used to detect a little amount of glucose. In this paper, the pure platinum plate (length of 5 cm and a width of 3 mm), the Ag/AgCl electrode and platinum electrode (diameter of 1 mm) were applied as a working electrode (W.E), reference electrode and auxiliary electrode sequential. Factors measured, glucose concentration and pH is Phosphate...
